A.About this notice

The scope of this page and the people who manage the site.

  1. SNEStorage and its staff

SNEStorage is an independent community project for SNES resources. The site operator and authorized staff administer accounts, resources, and community participation. Use the contact section below for questions about information handled by SNEStorage.

  2. This website and linked services

This notice describes SNEStorage's website. When you follow a social, donation, repository, or external download link, the destination website handles your visit under its own privacy terms.

B.Information we handle

Information you submit and technical information involved in operating the website.

  1. Account and registration details

Registration collects your username, email address, password, date of birth, avatar, username color, time zone, and email visibility preference. The account system stores a password hash for authentication rather than a readable password. Your date of birth is private account information and is hidden from other users' profile views. It is used to determine eligibility for sensitive content: access requires signing in with an account whose recorded date of birth indicates an age of at least 18. A recorded date of birth is not identity verification.

  2. Profile information

Profile information can include your avatar, title, biography, username color, preferences, and the social or support links you choose to provide. Fields you leave blank do not require you to supply those optional details.

  3. Resources and participation

We store submitted resource files, versions, release notes, previews, descriptions, classifications, tags, author credits, dependencies, visibility settings, comments, ratings, and reactions. Contributions are associated with the relevant account, including resource and version submitters. Archives and previews may themselves contain personal information you include in them.

  4. Reports and moderation

When you report a resource or comment, we store the selected reason, the reported item, your account association, and report dates and resolution status. Reports are available to authorized moderation staff to investigate rule violations.

  5. Technical information

Serving the website and protecting requests involves technical information such as IP addresses, browser request headers, requested addresses, session identifiers, and request or error diagnostics. The hosting and security providers may process this information as part of their services. What is retained depends on the site's and providers' logging configuration.

C.How information is used

The website uses information to provide account, resource, and community features.

  1. Accounts and access

Account information supports registration, email confirmation, sign-in, session handling, and access permissions. Profile preferences control features such as display colors, time zone presentation, and email visibility.

  2. The resource library and community

Submitted content and its account associations allow SNEStorage to display resources, identify authors and submitters, provide downloads, preserve version histories, and show comments, ratings, and reactions.

  3. Security, moderation, and support

Access information, technical signals, reports, and relevant contributions help authenticate requests, detect automated abuse, investigate errors, enforce site rules, and handle support or privacy requests. Authorized staff may review information needed for those tasks. Cloudflare security services and hosting protections help filter malicious traffic. The application also limits request frequency by account identifier or network address, depending on the action, and limits simultaneous uploads. Requests may be challenged, temporarily limited, or blocked when these protections apply.

D.Public and restricted information

Understand what others can see before publishing information.

  1. Public contributions identify their contributors

Public resource information, author credits, comments, and associated usernames or avatars can be visible to other visitors. Profile descriptions and social links are intended for display where profile features make them available. Public information can be copied or indexed by others outside SNEStorage's control.

  2. Email visibility

Your email visibility setting controls whether your email is included in user summaries shown to others. Your own account view can show your email even when it is hidden from other users. Hiding an email from public display does not remove it from the account system or prevent its use for confirmation and account administration.

  3. Public, unlisted, and private resources

Public resources are available to visitors. Unlisted resources can be accessed by anyone with the direct link; an unlisted link is not a confidentiality control. Private resources restrict access, but remain available to authorized administrators and moderators, authors, the resource submitter, and users who submitted a version of that resource.

  4. Check files and previews before uploading

Resource visibility applies to access through SNEStorage. It cannot withdraw copies already downloaded by someone who had access. Check archives, document metadata, image metadata, previews, and release notes for information you do not want to share.

E.Cookies and browser storage

Browser features support sign-in, safe forms, and navigation.

  1. Account, session, and form protection

SNEStorage uses authentication and session cookies to maintain account access, and antiforgery protection to help prevent unauthorized form submissions. Blocking these cookies can prevent sign-in or protected forms from working.

  2. Temporary account information in the page

The interface temporarily reuses account information in the current page's memory to avoid repeating the same request during navigation. This account snapshot is not persisted in localStorage or sessionStorage. It is separate from the account and session cookies.

  3. Cloudflare security checks

Cloudflare may use security cookies or similar browser mechanisms to validate challenges and protect the site against automated abuse. Which cookies are set depends on the security features and checks applied to your visit. See Cloudflare's cookie documentation below for their purposes and lifetimes. Blocking required security mechanisms can prevent a challenge or protected request from completing.

  4. Your local SPC library

The SPC Player saves the tracks you select, their metadata, playlist order, and player settings in IndexedDB in your browser. These local library files are not uploaded to SNEStorage or stored in its database. The library remains on that browser and device until you remove its contents or clear the site's browser storage; browsers may also remove stored data. It is not synchronized with your account.

  5. Applying IPS and BPS patches

The patching tool reads the ROM and patch you select and creates the patched file in your browser. These selected files are not uploaded to SNEStorage or stored in its database. After successfully creating a patched file, the tool sends a request to increment a shared usage counter stored in a file on the server. This request does not include the ROM, patch, or their filenames. The counter stores an aggregate total, not a history of individual users; normal security checks and request logs may still apply. This differs from resource submission, where files are uploaded to the server.

  6. Your browser controls

You can manage cookies, cached website files, and stored site data through your browser. Clearing them may sign you out, remove your local SPC library and settings, or require the website to reload its assets. Removing a track from the SPC Player removes its local library copy, not the original file on your device. Provider-specific browser storage, when used, is described in the relevant provider's privacy information.

F.Providers and hosting

External services involved in hosting, security, email, fonts, and support.

  1. MonsterASP.NET Premium hosting

SNEStorage uses MonsterASP.NET Premium hosting in the United States for its application, database, and uploaded files, with the infrastructure security protections included in that plan. The provider describes measures including firewalls, intrusion detection, automated blocking of malicious traffic, server security updates, and protected backups. Hosting operations may involve access logs, diagnostics, and backup copies. Data hosted there may be processed in the United States even if you visit from another country; external providers may process service data in additional locations.

  2. Cloudflare network and bot protection

SNEStorage routes website traffic through Cloudflare and uses its denial-of-service (DDoS) protection, rate limiting, and Bot Fight Mode to help detect and block malicious or automated traffic. Cloudflare processes request and connection information, such as IP addresses, browser headers, requested addresses, timing, and security signals, to deliver and protect the website. A request may be challenged or blocked before it reaches SNEStorage's hosting server.

  3. Cloudflare Turnstile

Protected actions use Cloudflare Turnstile to distinguish visitors from bots. Cloudflare processes technical signals including the IP address, browser User-Agent, TLS fingerprint, and the website origin. Its Turnstile privacy notice explains the processing used to provide and improve bot detection.

  4. Account emails

SNEStorage sends account confirmation and password-reset emails from [email protected] through MonsterASP.NET's SMTP email service. Delivering these messages involves the recipient email address, username, message content, and the private confirmation or password-reset link, as well as delivery information handled by the mail servers. Your own email provider also processes messages delivered to your mailbox. Treat account links as private and do not share them.

  5. Externally delivered fonts

The website loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser contacts Google's font servers to request them, which involves your network address and request headers. Google's privacy information describes its handling of service requests.

  6. Discord linking and community support

You can choose to link your SNEStorage account with Discord. Linking stores your Discord user ID, Discord username, and linking date alongside your SNEStorage account. The integration exchanges account and membership information needed to link accounts and manage server access and supported community roles. Discord processes its service under its own policy. The privacy contact link opens the official SNEStorage Discord server, where staff can receive information you send privately about a request. Do not send passwords or account confirmation or password-reset tokens.

G.Retention and removal

Account information and published contributions can have different retention needs.

  1. Stored accounts and contributions

Stored accounts, comments, and uploads do not currently expire automatically. They remain available according to their visibility and the site's editing and moderation features. Contact staff to discuss removal of account information or a contribution. Relevant records may need to be retained for unresolved support matters, security investigations, attribution, or applicable legal obligations.

  2. Removing content and removing personal information

Account data requests and requests to remove a resource are reviewed separately. Published contributions can have other authors, replies, version histories, or dependent resources. Site resource policies do not replace rights that apply to your personal information. Explain whether your request concerns the account, identifying details, or the contribution itself.

  3. Comments with replies

A deleted comment may remain as a deleted placeholder when it has replies, so the conversation structure is preserved. Removal from the visible interface does not by itself confirm that every associated record, diagnostic log, or provider copy has been erased.

  4. Provider records and backups

Hosting backups, email delivery records, and security logs may retain information separately from the live website. Their retention and replacement depend on the relevant service and configuration. Removing information from a live page does not immediately remove every backup or provider record. Contact SNEStorage staff about a request involving these copies.

H.Your choices and requests

How to manage your information or contact staff for assistance.

  1. Manage your profile

Use the profile editor to change supported profile fields, remove optional social links, and adjust email visibility. Changes to the account username, email address, or date of birth currently require staff assistance.

  2. Ask about your information

Contact staff to request information about your personal data, a correction, a copy, or deletion. Depending on the law that applies, additional rights such as restriction or objection may be available. Staff may need to verify that the request concerns your account before disclosing or changing its information.

  3. Keep requests private and specific

Provide your username and describe which information or contribution concerns you through a private conversation with staff. Do not put sensitive account details in public comments or channels. If you believe information was exposed incorrectly, include the relevant page address without sharing secret tokens.

I.Updates to this notice

The policy should reflect the services and features currently in use.

  1. Check the revision date

This notice may change when the website's features, providers, or information-handling practices change. The date at the top identifies its latest revision. Contact staff if you need clarification about a change.
